Blood Sugar Details
Fasting blood sugar ideally is in the 80’s and low 90’s (mine is 82) though this gets harder to achieve as we age without great diet, exercise and balanced hormones.
HA1C should be in the 4’s to the lower 5’s ideally. This is a 3 month blood sugar average. Mine varies from 5.1 to 5.3.
Fructosamine gives you an idea of blood sugar over 2-3 weeks. Fructosamine is a glycated protein that is created when glucose, a type of sugar in the blood, binds to proteins. The process of glucose binding to proteins is called non-enzymatic glycation, or the Maillard reaction.
When this is elevated, often folks eat high glycation product producing foods like doughnuts and fried foods. I haven’t run this on myself. The reference range for fructosamine in non-diabetic individuals is generally 200 to 285 umol/L. People with controlled diabetes: Fructosamine levels typically range from 210–421 mmol/L. People with uncontrolled diabetes: Fructosamine levels typically range from 268–870 mmol/L. In some cases, can be even higher.
Blood sugar levels can be raised excessively by (it’s not all about sugary foods):
