So many folks don’t feel well anymore. Even kids.
Kids come into my office, young kids, talking about their anxiety and stress.
They are on anti-acids, some even on high blood pressure meds and more.
But no one has looked into their basics.
Air,
Food,
Water,
Movement,
Sleep.
Feeling stressed, anxious, not like your old self? Even your kids?
Get back to the basics.
The Basics
#1. Clean up your diet. Eat at least 5 colorful veggies and fruits. And fewer foods in boxes or cans. Less processed foods. Get rid of the sodas - even fruit juice. Do water, flavored bubbly water, or a dash of flavor in regular water. Consistent sugars, chemicals and caffeine… contribute to problems that docs might recommend meds to fix when you just need to “go back to the basics”.
#2. Eat a diverse diet. Avoid “food monotony”. A healthy person has a healthy gut. A healthy gut and its biomes (influential microbial life) love diversity.
#3. Move. Don’t just sit, sit and sit. With the head protruded forward into screens. Phone. Video games. Holding the head down puts the musculature in the back of the throat similar to the musculature of a very overweight person. This increases the risk of sleep apnea, fatty liver, and other potential adverse issues. Yes, even in kids. Young kids.
#4. Sleep. Make sure your sleep is sound. Limit late hours on a screen. Don’t sleep next to a phone.
#5. Get outside. And also filter air and water inside.
#6. Become weight conscious, even in the young. Fat cells store nasty pollutants. Potentially make brain size smaller (See my article Bigger Belly Fat, Smaller Brain Size). Don’t minimize excess weight. If parents are heavy, put the whole family on strategies. Our kids are our biggest mirrors!
#7. Try to reduce plastics. Don’t microwave food in plastic. Don’t reuse plastic containers (for beverages or foods) that have been washed in dishwashers. Try to purchase and store foods in glass. As much as possible. Though it’s more and more challenging.
#8. Avoid scents like perfumes. Today, many guys use colognes that contain phthalates. Try essential oils. (Yes, even dudes - ha!)
More later, the above should be enough to get you started.
Get back to the basics.
Sounds simple. But basics are powerful. They are foundational.
Often the basics can improve issues before treks to docs and jumping on the Big Pharma conveyor belts.
YOUR health is in YOUR details.
Be Well,
Dr. B.
I love this approach! I tell my clients all the time "Be Brilliant at the Basics," especially in terms of their mental and physical health. This is messaging that needs to be put on billboards! I have a friend who has a grandson with brittle diabetes at 11 years old. The family orders uber eats every day and goes to starbucks - yet no connection has been made to what he eats! They just say he is a brittle diabetic. I almost had to duck tape my mouth shut when I heard this! Love your message!
