I have a number of patients that swear they avoid sugar and processed carbs, but still have a hemoglobin A1 C (HA1C) that is rising.

HA1C of 5.1 or less is ideal.

Above 5.1, you are starting, according to Dr. Mark Houston who taught this at his Functional Cardiology course Part 1, that I took with him.

There were 11 cardiologists, one PA and me. Ha.

It was one weekend but 24 hours of tutorial. Wow.

I respect Dr. Houston and often reach out to him for pointers here and there.

Dr. Houston says that above 5.1 you are starting to get some tissue damage from elevated sugar in the blood.

Of course, our blood sugars start to rise with age. With less hormones. Or unbalanced hormones.

It’s not all diet.
