The liver is an amazing organ. It wears lots of hats.
The liver processes so many hormones, lipids, drugs and more, that it has one of the highest temperatures inside our body.
If liver cells (hepatocytes) start to fill up with fat, the liver can’t check off it’s “to-do” lists so well.
New Terms:
Two types of NAFLD are nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
But now there are newer terms.
MASLD (formerly known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) is a common chronic liver disease, and its severe form —
Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (formerly nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) — is associated with severe oxidative stress.
The take home is that if you have fatty liver that is worsening, you have excess inflammation.
Excess inflammation is now considered the “epicenter” of many illnesses. Such as metabolic disease that then drives many other illnesses from cancer to diabetes to cognitive decline.
People typically develop one type of fatty liver issue or the other, although sometimes people with one form are later diagnosed with the other form.
We will be chatting on how to detect if you have fatty build up in your liver, why you should care and what you might do.
