Many of us reading this Substack are healers. Or regular humans caring about healing. And hope.
Yesterday there was a congressional hearing on our response to Covid, and Dr. Fauci’s part in it.
This bipartisan congressional hearing was Fauci's first public testimony since stepping down from government office at the end of 2022.
I wish I could have been there and asked questions.
There was no doubt about it, you could hear and see how divided our country is.
It was very scary to me.
Fauci has been giving commencement speeches at many medical school graduations. Calling for their commitment to science. His science.
Part of our debate is whose science do we listen to.
This whole science versus anti-science is something I’ve heard my whole long career in functional medicine.
Nutrition was long regarded as major anti-science.
The biome was thought to be a granola thought from Californians.
I once asked a famous doctor what he thought, must have been around 1971 as I had just come back from India, about fasting.
I went there to study yoga, Ayurvedic medicine (a system of traditional medicine native to India). Both yoga and Ayurveda disciplines include fasting and detoxing.
This famous doctor told me fasting was dangerous. I was out of my mind. I was anti-science.
Often the anti-science of yesterday becomes the science of today.
Or the proclamation of “science” is made for you to think that this is the only way to think.
Actual science is often evolved from debate. From both sides. From looking at the whole. From teasing out “root-cause”. From following the money and being careful.
Accusations don’t help.
Don’t promote wholeness.
Maybe shielding the money trail. Or power trail.
