A new and important incentive to help you all stick to your New Year’s resolutions for EXERCISE.
The evidence is “piling up” that physical activity (move it or lose it) lowers the risk of getting severely ill from COVID.
“The CDC, based on a systematic review of the evidence, has reported that physical activity is associated with a decrease in COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths, while “in-activity” increases that risk."
Other research has linked regular physical activity with a lower risk of infection, hospitalization, and death from COVID.
A Kaiser Permanente study showed that exercise, in almost any amount, cuts down the risk of severe or fatal COVID.
Get this, exercise even protected against severe Covid in high-risk patients, like those with high blood pressure, and/ or cardiovascular disease.
Every level of physical activity provided some level of protection.
Even a 10-minute walk [per] week is associated with better COVID-19 outcomes.
Food studies that came out during Covid showed the same thing. More veggies at meals, the less severe Covid, if you get it.
Lifestyle is PROTECTIVE. (And it doesn’t release spike proteins into your body.)
The best outcomes were seen among those who are consistently meeting our national guidelines of greater than 150 minutes a week of at least brisk walking.
But every bit of exercise counted!
1 in 4 adults doesn’t get any physical activity outside of their jobs!
Pass this info forward!
Fitness and more plant-diverse plant foods don’t guarantee outcomes. But certainly, help move the needle in the right direction.
Outliers? Some can exercise so much, like highly conditioned athletes who exercise often and hard — may increase their risk of severe COVID. Some excess exercisers might also be at increased risk of lingering symptoms like shortness of breath, severe fatigue, and brain fog post-Covid, especially if they were not fortunate enough to get “early interventions”).
Health is about balance.
