Our Real Legacies: "Transgenerational" Gifts That Keep Giving. To "Great" grandkids.

When we think of what we “leave” our next generations we often think of money, bonds, wisdom, but we don’t think of passing on our “biomes” or good and bad epigenetics.

But this is has enormous “thrust” of how our next generations turn out.

We saw this with the drug that was given to my mom when pregnant with me, so given to me, when I was early on a fetus.

Diethylstilbestrol (DES) was given to multiple millions (guesstimate is 38 million women) during pregnancy as injections to thwart of threatened miscarriages, or by prenatal vitamins (put into 365 different brands at the time) and dumped into feed lots as it makes beef very “tasty”.

DES is the model endocrine disrupting compound (EDC). It is the most powerful EDC ever invented so tracking the offspring born to women exposed is a huge amount of cautionary information for all of us.

But the DES tragedy is NOT taught in any med schools.

Perhaps this makes it a tiny bit easier to request a pregnant soon to be mom take a vaccine or something else foreign in their bodies, I bet.

DES is synthetic estrogen that is 50 times more powerful than our main estrogen, estradiol.

Daughters born to mom’s given DES had more breast cancer, endometriosis, adenomyosis, insulin resistance, no-fault “fat” as inherited “bad” adipocyte genes, and early premature mortality.

Some DES daughters tended to be professionally smart, marry less, and perhaps have more “gender bending”. Though this is controversial.

DES males had a higher propensity for penis abnormalities, prostate cancer.

Grand daughters were not immune.

There are a number of early ovarian cancer cases in girls 8 to 11 years old. More cases of autism. And… extremely significant, a rise in “infertility”.

Keep in mind this is generations after the initial exposure.

This is what is called “transgenerational” meaning you pass this on for generations to come.

Significant decreases in infertility have been observed over the past 50 years, with female conception rates dropping by 44% and male sperm counts decreasing by over 50%.

This dramatic decrease in fertility can be attributed in part to our increasing exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs).

Diethylstilbestrol (DES) is an estrogenic EDC that was prescribed to millions of pregnant women from 1938 to 1971. Then it was banned as the most cancer causing substance ever invented.

Women who were exposed to DES in utero experienced higher rates of infertility, pregnancy complications, and reproductive cancers.

  • Birth Defects in DES Grandchildren (Possible)
A French study published in the journal Pharmacoepidemiology, in September 2016, led by Michel Tournaire, MD, an OBGYN with the Hospital of Paris, and the DES France Association Network, showed six types of birth defects occurred more frequently among DES Grandchildren, in decreasing risk: esophagus defects; other digestive defects; male genital tract anomalies (especially undescended testicle(s) and hypospadias); cleft lip/palate; musculoskeletal anomalies; and congenital heart defects.

  • The researchers did find a greater likelihood of cerebral palsy among DES grandchildren that corresponded with a higher rate of preterm birth in the DES exposed group.

  • Read the article covering this study and any bias to the results in the Summer Voice 2017 #153.

  • Overall Cancer Risk

    • Research done as part of the National Cancer Institute DES Follow-up Study found the number of ovarian cancers among DES Granddaughters greater than expected.

    • No increases in testicular cancer were found for DES Grandsons, but there has been one case of vaginal/cervical clear cell adenocarcinoma (CCA) in an 8 year old granddaughter.

    • CCA is the cancer for DES Daughters that is linked to prenatal DES exposure.

  • ADHD Risk (Possible)
A relatively new study from July 2018 in JAMA Pediatrics entitled Association of Exposure to Diethylstilbestrol During Pregnancy With Multigenerational Neurodevelopmental Deficits found that 7.7% of DES Grandchildren in the study population have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, compared to 5.2% of children without any links to DES exposure.

  • After accounting for several other factors, the study suggests that DES Grandchildren have a higher risk for ADHD than the general population.

  • The study’s finding of a positive link between ADHD and DES exposure in the third generation emphasizes the need for further research into ways the DES (AND OTHER EDCS THAT ACT LIKE DES- BERKSON) third generation might differ from the general population. Login to read the article in the Summer Voice 2018 #157.

Alarmingly, there is evidence to suggest that these NASTY effects may persist in the grandchildren and “great” grandchildren of exposed women.

Keep in mind, the mixture of many chemicals in our egg, sperm, placenta, all act together as though they are DES. They become a synergizing mixture of chemicals that are very DES-LIKE!

So far 3 generations have been tracked.

And what is in your egg, sperm, placenta, mother’s milk, effects THREE GENERATIONS.

Dr. Bruce Blumberg tested out to 4 generations and found that an initial exposure to one severe EDCS in utero continues to FOUR GENERATIONS.

We must say THE BUCK STOPS HERE.

In this blog we will discuss steps to do this. Without going crazy in the interim.
