One of the best aspects of functional medicine, is it’s respect for the influence of gut health, on tissues far and wide.
Especially the brain.
The gut is functionally the epicenter of our health.
Gastroenterologists are great to rule out GERD, polyps, or cancer.
But the deep dive into the “terrain” of the gut, its “good” and “bad” bugs, is done very differently by intricately trained functional medicine providers.
Functional docs recommend testing gastrointestinal terrains, small and large intestines, making sure no nasty pathogens lurk. Possibly “silently” eroding overall health.
BTW, there are very few actual “functional gastroenterologists”.
These agile thinking doctors are absolute gifts to their patients! (like Dr. Sam Rahbar at Los Angelos Gastroenterology and Nutrition, one of the smartest practitioners I know!).
