Some of my favorite patients are breast cancer patients. Who see me for adjunctive care.

In Naples, at the Naples’ Center for Functional Medicine, they kindly allowed me to set up two programs: one for adjunctive cancer care and the other the first functional renal program in the country that I am aware of.

I especially like to talk with their oncologists, if possible, and make everything transparent and get all on board. Not always possible. Sometimes amazing.

But one bumps into the oddest things and recently was stunned by this situation.

A young amazing mother of two very young kids was diagnosed 3 months ago with a very aggressive cancer that had gone into her lymph nodes.

She, and her supportive, smart husband wanted immediately to do bilateral mastectomies and lymphadenectomy. Makes total sense. Get the tumor load out!

No one would do it. At least in that order.
