Great article - thank you!!! Now my Primary is watching my estrogen level advising the right levels as protective against Alzheimer's - He was totally against HRT after the age of 80 only a year ago!!! The issue of informed and skilled management is ever prevalent. I had to direct my own care.

Your book should be the handy guide and read with care Before an appointment for BHRT. It is unfortunate, but we need to advocate for ourselves. The guidelines are clearly written in your book:

Safe Hormones, Smart Women.

Dr Dale Bredesen. Neurology Professor and leading expert in Alzheimer's promotes BHRT with Estrogen levels at 80.

Mine were below 15 , while creams applied could not raised it. Needles to say , all the hormones have to be addressed, and periodically tested. We all differ. After had a session with you, Dr Berkson, I went to Estrogen patch and it is slowly getting above 50. It is a process!! One needs smart guide by but someone who is careful and committed. I ended doing it myself directing my Primary. Func. Med docs sometimes are too busy to pay attention - as it was my case.

Do you feel like the NY Times article about HRT has opened up people's minds to it? I feel like I am not getting the resistance I used to before they published the rebuttal to the original WHI study.

Thank you for this about heart disease. The same for osteoporosis. Thank you for keeping us posted as we work hard clinically, as the information seems to change daily!

Love this information. Have passed on several of your newsletters encouraging women to subscribe. Really looking forward to your take on bio identical testosterone. Is it important to take with progesterone and estrogen in bio identical form or can it be taken alone in post menopausal women and what is your preference as to the delivery mode?

A little common sense goes a long way...

Wonderful article Dr. B! It’s hard to believe the gatekeeping of HRT that occurs in the medical field. While I greatly appreciate the studies that demonstrate the positive impact of HRT on our health, if we had no studies whatsoever, real-world clinical outcomes (ie. Reduction of medications, better sleep, more energy, better quality of life, etc) should be enough to demonstrate the benefits of hormone optimization in women. Thank you!!

I so appreciate your hard work and wisdom! I’ve heard Pam Smith speak several times, and I have her books. She seems pretty adamant that testosterone can be dangerous to female blood vessels if not given with enough estrogen. This doesn’t make perfect sense to me, as I assume male and female blood vessels are similar (if not identical), and it would not support the work of Rebecca Glaser. I have come to believe that estrogen and testosterone are generally healthy for all humans, and that the physiologic and anatomic differences are primarily important for reproduction. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks for this Dr. B, I am getting caught up with your articles and wonder if you have already written about your thoughts on cyclical vs static/continuous HRT. It seems that many functional practitioners are big on cyclical lately. I have been on static (estradiol patch 2x/wk and daily oral progesterone/testosterone cream) for 10 years (age 62). Are there trusted resources you can point me to so I have a better understanding? Thanks so much for your continued efforts to educate the world! :)
