I used to have so much respect for him. He was a voice of reason(I thought). Now I wonder if he is wrong about this then what else is he wrong about. 🤔
Well, you know nobody can be absolutely right 100% of the time but nonetheless this is a huge horrific issue to be wrong on and if you really read the literature, you can’t have any other understanding other than estrogen is breast protective and it appears to me that most people do not read the literature. Even most docs! Even most specialists! They just read the headlines or the abstracts, or the studies that are really about Synthetic progestins. Medicine is all about trends, and the majority of the studies say that estrogen is breast, protective and I go through all of these studies in “everything hormones” coming up soon. I’m contemplating offering that CME course to Mercola for free. Wonder if he’ll take it?
What do you consider natural ingredients? I’m asking because I have Er and Pr + bc. I am currently on Bhrt biest + T and progesterone, vaginal cream. There is a local place that I go to that does 24 hr urine testing. I’m just curious what you consider natural ingredients just being Bhrt or actual specific ingredients. My scripts are filled by compounding pharmacy. Just trying to be educated and cautious.
Dr Mercola not only takes supplemental testosterone but also takes daily progesterone. When he writes about the problems with estrogen supplementation he quotes Ray Peat and Georgi Dinkov. The latest is estrogen bad...organic cane sugar good, non processed carbs good. I no longer know what end is up!
I'm not sure about what Mercola says exactly but there is a difference in taking certain hormones: bio-identical or synthetic/from other animals. Women who think their only choice is to supplement any source of animal/bioidentical estrogen clearly do not understand their options. The woman's body stops making as much estrogen from the ovaries, which is why women get abdominal fat at menopause....fat cells make estrogen. We stop this FOR A REASON. It's built in to our humanness.....supplementing with drugs is against nature. herbs and foods can support the body and reduce apparent risks (heart attack, stroke, osteoporosis) naturally. BUT it should be said that reduced estrogen alone does not put you at risk for any of these issues.....there is more to be considered. In fact, birth control and hormone replacement in general INCREASE your risk for stroke and other issues like cancer. There is NO need for bioidenticals or otherwise. It's sad to see women rail against Mercola's post, but I do see the contradiction/double standard you think he is conveying although I'm not sure it's reality. At any rate, know your choices....and they don't come from a lab. many herbs are AMAZING at keeping your system in balance....food as well.
thank you. I have done a fair amount of research on Bioidenticals and I find that they are still synthesized and highly processed, even if they are from plants. Not natural, not needed. Again, women are not supposed to have estrogen in amounts given for menopause. We go through 'the change' for a physiological reason, so why 'trick' they body into thinking otherwise? Just use PLANTS and food. :)
Guess if I can’t see, there’s no reason I should go purchase glasses because God just met me to not be able to see wow I didn’t realize that I’m gonna go throw my glasses away
Is that supposed to be an analogy of a person being born blind compared to a women going through menopause? Not really the same IMO. Not EVERYONE is born blind, but all women (with few caveats) go through the change and it IS part of life....a natural cycle. A NATURAL cycle. Being born blind is not natural nor common, but it IS part of life for that blind person. I'll give you that.
At first she said 'cant see' so I went with that, and then read it again. My second comment admitted as much. Still not menopause.....seeing vs a natural process. Hmmm...... The analogy isn't accurate. If she were to say insulin and type I diabetes vs bad eyesight, then yes, that makes sense since the organ stops working and we need insulin to survive and we certainly need eye sight to survive too. .
Hormones are the most powerful signaling molecules in the body, for both continuous, robust physical, emotional and mental health as well as longevity. Living in a super-chemical world with serious endocrine disruptors, xeno-estrogens that block human hormone receptors and many toxic heavy metals in our mouths ( mercury) food chain, water, soils and air(mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, etc) that disrupt or destroy endocrine function, it is Essential to pay attention to and support and supplement our hormones throughout our lifespan. Essential minerals like iodine and toxic blockers like bromine and fluoride are just one example - iodine is essential to create thyroid hormone as well as protect breast and prostate tissue and all glands. Synthesized bio-identical hormones are essential to rebuilding endocrine, mental, emotional and physical health from all sorts of toxins, deficiencies and to support radiant health and longevity. Investigate all the new science research around the world in the last 40 years and you will be convinced in the value of bio- identical hormones- even if they have their origins in a laboratory, the end product is a exact copy of nature’s molecular structure. First Read or view on YouTube Dr Thierry Hertoghe’s lectures and books on endocrinology and longevity and health or Dr Devaki Berkson’s brilliant books on woman’s hormones and health, Then you can form a well researched opinion about using bioidentical hormones to create and sustain health and longevity.
Im not sure I could ever be convinced synthesized hormones are essential for health. Yes, we live in a toxic world and all of those issues can be balanced with food, lifestyle, and plants/mushrooms, not coming from a lab. As an herbal practitioner, my tools are exhaustive. As a doctor, I am assuming tools are limited and the bioidentical market is very competitive and lucrative. It's not an 'exact' copy otherwise it wouldn't have to be processed and tampered with and we would not see the side-effect associated with them. I can assure you, a human body knows the difference between molecules like bioidenticals and actual naturally derived molecules extracted directly from the plant. Point being, women going through menopause have reduced hormones FOR A REASON. Why is this so difficult a concept? Are humans that controlling to think natural processes need to be tampered with? As a menopausal women, and one with other endocrine issues that prop up, I can attest to the time honored and natural approach to address side effects of menopause. Not only are phyto-hormones safe, they are indeed effective.
And kelp is excellent at protecting the thyroid from the -mines.
The same message goes for the chiropractor Dr Mercola who has obviously overstepped his knowledge base and ignorance of endocrinology and made ignorant comments about womens’s health and bio-identical hormone supplementation. Mercola sells supplements and write click-bate articles to sell his supplements, and sometimes he interviews scientists and clinicians with excellent information, but he should not write and speak on things he has minimal knowledge or expertise or experience in.
The women and men who live longest on earth have high hormone levels. Healthy, high hormone levels are necessary for all biological functions- way beyond menopause. Why should a woman supplement with bio-identical hormones during and after menopause and perimenopause? To reduce and prevent hot flashes, mood swings, depression, sagging breasts and pelvic cavity, cancer prevention, restful sleep, continuous enjoyable sexual intimacy with partner, better intimate relationship - physically, emotionally and mentally, better mental and heart health. (Testosterone for women is wonderful for retaining muscle mass and bone density along with estradiol, lowers triglycerides, improves all arterial health, and many others). My advice would be don’t be a Mercola, instead do a deep dive into the research and read some books before you dismiss the exact molecular copies of human hormones that are bio-identicals. If it wasn’t for the toxic US drug Cartels known as “Big Pharma”, all physicians would be using bio identical hormones to create and restore their patients to health- along with excellent nutrition and targeted, specific supplements ( some of which contain lead, cadmium and other toxins FYI - such as the seaweed you mentioned- seaweed is often high in toxins because our oceans are so polluted)
Are you really telling me that the natural process of aging should be changed? High hormones.....what does that mean really? I call BS on that. You cannot supplement with synthetic hormones and think it's healthy. Im sorry, but I don't at all buy that. there are many ways to stay healthy and statements like that likely do not account all the things ppl do to stay healthy. Just as earth goes through cycles, so do humans. Embrace it. yes, we can find balance in certain ways and need to intervene to keep our body's functioning in a healthy way, but supplementing beyond what is natural has a myriad of side effects.
I have done as much of a dive into these sythnetic hormones that I need to. I have read articles and heard from many who have taken them....they work, but only for a while.
You tout synthesized hormones, I tout natural approaches.....we are clearly at an impasse. You will never convince me a synthetic pill is better than whole plant medicine, food as medicine, and acceptance of natural cycles of a human being. Many people just want a pill and that is what they get.
Lastly, I would NEVER suggest to people taking hormones and rattling off all the things these pills will help with and not addressing these things with diet, lifestyle, and plants/mushrooms.....what the earth provides is all we need IMO. Many do not eat right......are stressed out......take too many medications. There is not one thing you mentioned hormones DO that diet, lifestyle and herbs can help. GET TO THEW SOURCE. And I bet most times it has nothing to do with hormones....
I generally agree with you on healthy diet and lifestyle, but I also think the “natural process of aging” as you say should be changed when it leads to lower hormone levels and the resulting incontinence, memory loss, physical deterioration, increased cancer susceptibility, sleep disturbances, arterial, muscle and bone and overall skin and tissue degeneration, sexual dysfunction, mood and irritability (“grumpy old man” with low testosterone or “bitchy old lady” with low estrdiol), body aches and slow healing from lower testosterone and estradiol, etc. There’s just a few of hundreds of reasons to forestall the ravages of aging with bioidentical hormones. But you are free to do as you wish, I choose the radiant health and vibrancy that bioidentical hormones offer as an alternative to “natural aging” (or rotting as I call it lol)
Premarin and Progestins are toxic and are NOT bio-identical to Estradiol and Progesterone. Both can be created/synthesized in a laboratory, but the key difference is lab-created estradiol or progesterone is identical to human estradiol and progesterone and therefore the body knows how to utilize and excrete it without bioaccumulating or causing kidney/liver damage or blood clots, strokes etc as Premarin or progestins do. Chemical structure is critical.
Sock it to mister Know - It - All, sistah!
